Question -
How
do I set up my email?
When
you go into your email program to set up
a new email you will just need to put in
your username, password, and incoming &
outgoing mail servers. Your
username is your FULL email account,
I.E.,
services@baraboonow.com . Both your
incoming and outgoing servers are
mail.yourdomainname.com.
Important! You must check the box that
says "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires
authentication. Otherwise you
mail will not go out.
Remember you can also check your email
online when you travel just by going
to mail.yourdomain.com. Enter your
email address and password to log in.
From there you can read and respond to
any email in your box.

Notes
-
Important! You must check
the box that says "My
outgoing server (SMTP)
requires authentication. Otherwise you
mail will not go out.
-
Unless specified, all server
and address entries are
typed in lowercase letters.
Some ISPs require a
combination of lowercase and
uppercase letters for
passwords to add further
security.
-
You have the option of
having Outlook remember your
password by typing it in the
Password box and
selecting the
Remember password check
box. While this means that
you won't have to type in
your password each time you
access the account, it also
means that the account is
vulnerable to anyone who has
access to your computer.
-
Do
any of the following:
-
If you are adding a
Microsoft Exchange Server
account, click
Check Names to verify
that the server recognizes
your name. The name and
server you entered should
become underlined. Be sure
your computer is connected
to your network. If your
name does not become
underlined, contact your
administrator.
-
If you are adding a POP3
server account, click
Test Account Settings to
verify that your account is
working. If there is missing
or incorrect information,
such as your password, you
will be prompted to supply
or correct it. Be sure your
computer is connected to the
Internet.
-
If
you want to configure additional
settings, such as how you want
your computer to connect to your
e-mail server, click
More Settings. Otherwise,
click
Next.
-
Click
Finish.
Question -
How do I check the stats for my links
and banners?
Just
go to
http://www.wisconsin-dells.net/bannerstats.asp
and enter your email address and select
the dates you want your report for. The
report will automatically be sent to you
via email. Some advetising clients did
not set up an email account for stats
reports and will have to call me so I
can enter their email in our system.
Question -
I think I have spyware or a virus.
What should I do?
Well
it's not too easy to guess from here but
be sure your virus definitions are up to
date as well as the definitions on your
spyware programs. Then run them all.
Hopefully that will fix your problems.
Here are some programs that will help
you keep your system running.
Microsoft Spyware Removal Software
Ad-Aware
(another good spyware program)
Spy-bot (again
another spyware program)
Tracks Eraser Pro
(Clean up you files)
Norton Anti-Virus Software
Stinger - When
it got past your Anti-virus software
Personally I run my anti-spyware
programs every day and that is what I
recommend. When dealing with
viruses you can face a bit more trouble.
Note that often when removing viruses
from your computer you will have to shut
off your system restore function
otherwise windows can be backing up and
storing the viruses that you just
removed. Follow your Anti-virus
programs instructions for removal.
Question -
Can I update my website by myself?
Absolutely! I have set up almost
all client websites so that you can
easily update your site with a little
training. Often sites are set up
with Microsoft FrontPage extensions and
anyone with MS Word experience can
easily jump right in. Just give me a
ring and I will get you started.
Question -
Can
you fix my computer?
Maybe.
Computer & Network repair is not really
part of my business, however many times
problems are very simple and can be
fixed fairly quickly. I am happy
to come to your business and have a look
and if there is not a "quick fix". I
will refer you to someone who can fix
it. There will be a small charge
for coming out to your business.
Question -
How do I get an ad in your Baraboo/Dells newsletter?
We
have a mailing list of just over 2000
email addresses. I am happy to
provide space to our current advertisers
and hosting clients. Just let me
know by the first of the month that you
have content for the newsletter and I
will get it in. There is NO COST
for this service.
Question -
Can you help me buy a computer?
DO
NOT SPEND $2000 on a computer! I
can certainly help you shop for a new
system. I have seen too many folks
taken to the cleaners on custom built
"business quality" systems. Call
me first and then if you still want to
drop $2000 on a computer it's your
choice. Hey, I don't sell
computers and I don't build them either.
There is NO profit in it for me, but
I'll certainly feel better if you don't
get stuck over-spending on a computer
and maintenance plan.
Question -
How can I check and see if a Domain name
is available?
You can go to plenty of places on line
to search for domain names.
Click Here to go to Network
Solutions and run a search BUT don't buy
it there as I can get it for you much
cheaper.
Question -
How do I get rid of all this disgusting
adult SPAM mail?
Well,
about 80% of what you used to get should
be getting filtered out as we go to our
new IronPort email program. This
is happening throughout 2005.
However if you want the updated done
right away on your site just send me an
email. Now that being said, we
cannot eliminate ALL spam. What I
do on my computer is use Outlook rules
to add senders to my junk list that is
deposited directly in my "deleted items"
folder. Over time this takes care of
about another 10% or so of all the spam.
If you
are getting viruses and you are not
always good at keeping your anti-virus
software up-to-date we do offer
server-side virus scanning that will
remove most viruses from your email
before you even download your mail.
There is a monthly fee for this service.
Question -
How do I get good listings in Search
Engines?
Content, content, content. The
main thing you can do is have good
content fairly rich in keywords that
folks would use to search for you.
You should also get links to your site
from other sites that come up under the
same keywords as you. Now, there
are some various optimization techniques
that will help search engines better
navigate and index your site and we try
to get those covered when we build it.
HOWEVER, Over SEO'd or search engine
optimization is NOT a holy grail and is
often a big mistake. There are
always people out there who will tell
you they can get you listed in the "TOP
10". Well, good luck. You
need to be vary wary of these folks.
Never pay out unless you see some
results.
If you
would like an idea of how a typical
search engine sees your website go to:
http://www.delorie.com/web/lynxview.html
and enter your web address and see the
results. This is a text viewer and
it will see your site in a similar way
to major search engines.
Google
Adwords - This is a way to pay for a
listing. You pay a certain amount
of money each time someone clicks on
your site. This may be good for
you, but on the other hand some folks
don't get much results from Adwords.
But it does not cost much to experiment
with it. So Adwords may be a good
idea. I can certainly help you out
with that.
So, if
you want to be your own "SEARCH ENGINE
EXPERT" the best thing you can do is go

Question -
Why does my dog bit me so much?
Do you
have a picture of Lyndon Johnson on your
wall? (Too obscure?)
